Catch The Moment Week #12

The theme for the week is spring and it sure doesn’t feel like spring around here.  I think we may have had one day above freezing all week.  The birds are starting to make their appearance in the area.  We even saw snow geese by Devils Lake, ND.  The snow is still leaving us with the intense rays from the sun, believe it or not!  Here are my pics from the week…

Day-78

It turns out our granddaughter, Mollie-Jayne is like the rest of the girls in the family.  She loves eating at the Japanese steak house too!  I think she had 3 plates of noodles!

Day-79

Sadie Sadie Sadie. She fell asleep with her head in my purse.

Day-80BrettDay-80Max

The boys had a haircut day.  This is the shortest time they’ve gone in between cuts –  only 3 months!

Day-81

Saturday we headed north to Canada for parts.  I love the signs they use.  We don’t have cool signs like this to get the point across.

Day-82

Sunday afternoon we went for an airplane ride.  Below is Frost Fire Mountain Ski Area in the Pembina Gorge.

Day-83

Yet another one of my sunrise pictures as it was about to emerge from the horizon.

Day-84DSC_6757

The view from our mailbox.  I’ve been trying to capture the snow melting by taking a picture from the same spot every few days.  The snow is not melting in our yard –  we have one big sheet of ice! I thought it was neat the way this one turned out with the sun similar to Sarah’s last week.  I also found that 1/60 shutter speed seems to be the right setting on my 18-55mm lens for the sun-rays.  The little specs in the sky are from my pitted windshield and a lens flare.  I dug out my 18-55mm lens this week, it had been neglected and not used for quite a few months.  Sometimes we all need a new perspective!

Day-80motion

Mindi posted a video about  Challenge 2 – Shutter Speed last week.  This is my capture for the shutter speed challenge.   I hope to play with motion blur more in the future.  It didn’t come out quite as I had hoped, but it was still a great learning opportunity!

Hope you’re having a great week!

Catch The Moment Week #10

The snow melt is on in North Dakota! The temps finally warmed above freezing on Sunday.  The busy season is around the corner and this week we definitely shifted gears.  I’m not sure what ever happened to all the time the farmers are supposed to have in the winter.  We don’t see it around here.  There’s always something that needs attention.  Before we know it, we’ll be scratching around in the fresh smelling dirt and loading up the combines for harvest.  I had hoped to start my seeds for the garden this week, but haven’t gotten to it yet.  We had Max’s 6th birthday on Monday. He had his classmates out to the farm.  They had so much fun playing both inside and outside.  Here are my captures from this week. Hopefully I’ll have more outdoor ones next week!

Day 64Day 64.2

The theme for the week is sleepy!  I ran upstairs for something and this is what I found not even 2 minutes later.  I panicked at first hoping he wouldn’t fall, but grabbed the camera for a quick shot.  Poor guy.

Day 65

Laugh Attack!

Day 66

Buttercream frosting for Max’s Ripslinger cake.

Day 67

Brett was in dad’s boots before breakfast on Saturday.

Day 68.1

I caught dad playing on the 4-wheeler when he was running back and forth in the yard while he was drying wheat.  It was so nice on Sunday, our first day in the 40°s.

Day 69DSC_6272

I have 2 pics for our birthday boy.  Monday was Max’s birthday party – one by one the kids thought they should ALL go for a ride on the 4-wheeler! Mick took them all around the yard.  I could walk faster than they were going, but they loved it! I think he had just as much fun as them. That’s our 6 year old on the right with the crazy face in the purple.  What a fun group! Max wanted a Planes Ripslinger cake so when he eats it he can tear him apart!

Day 70

I finished the top for my feathers quilt along.  You can check out all the other beautiful quilts here.  http://www.add-crafter.com/2014/02/feathers-qal-show-time/

Catch The Moment Week #9

Another bitterly cold week in North Dakota!  We spent most of the time indoors.  We had sickness make its round in the house this week.  Hopefully we’re on the end of it now!  We’ve been pretty fortunate this year health wise.  Here are my captures from the week.

North Dakota Sunset

Our only North Dakota sunset from the week. It’s been a very cloudy & windy week around here.

North Dakota ground blizzard

This is the way it goes in North Dakota, especially this time of the year.  We had dentist appointments an hour away today and had a blustery drive down.

day-59

This weeks theme is ‘Day in the Life’. This is typical around here – the girls come inside to warm up. We’ve had another bitterly cold week again -30°F on a few days. They spent a lot of time inside this week.

Day60

This is another typical scene. This time of the year usually brings the frost out.

Day 61

Brett just wanted to watch his movie. Of course Mollie-Jayne had other plans.  He was getting annoyed by her silliness.

Day 62

This is the longest Mick’s plane has ever sat outside since we’ve had it.  He’s had a lot going on in the shop so it got the boot and sat in front of the house for close to a month.  When he went to move it, there was too much snow and it was stuck.  He wasn’t very appreciative of me capturing it either. 🙂

Day 63

My Max hasn’t made it in very many pictures since he’s at school during the day.  I definitely need to work on this. We made chocolate cake for dad. Max had to have the beater!
