The April Garden in North Dakota

This is what I worked on yesterday afternoon…

I planted onion plants that arrived in the mail about a week ago – a little late, hopefully they will grow.  I also planted garlic, broccoli, cabbage, celery, carrots and peas.

Here is some progress of some other plants around the yard

My little helper next to our peas that were planted earlier this month

Strawberries

Rhubarb

Honeyberry – I’m hoping we get some this year as it is the 3rd year we have 5 different varieties

Columbine

Tulips & daffodils

A Mini greenhouse

This is the first year of having raised beds I only have a few things started in them so far.  One box has potatoes another has broccoli, spinach, garlic, lettuce the next one I planted seeds just yesterday and the other is empty still.  After my green house was destroyed due to high winds I was looking around for a solution.  I came across the garden clip system from territorialseed.com there is more information about the clips here.  All I needed were the clips and black poly pipe. I had my husband cut rebar into 2′ sections which we pounded into the ground with a sledgehammer.  Next we took the pipe and cut it to proper length and inserted it onto the rebar and just like that we had a structure.  I spread the plastic out and clipped it to the pipe.  This was way easier than setting up the greenhouse!

I took the corner pipe off so you can see the rebar.  The pipe just sits on top of it.

Of course my little helper was assisting he is holding the clips and standing in the black poly pipe roll.  It kept him entertained for a few minutes.

I just put a board on the ends to keep things tight at night.  It stays very warm inside I try to open it up during the day so everything doesn’t burn up.
