The first class was all about gum paste. We made flowers by using a cutter for shape and pushing gum paste into a mold. Gum paste dries fast so you have to keep it tightly covered when you are not working with it. It was drying quickly even as we worked with it so it cracked in some places on the pansy. The pansy was ruffled by pushing on the edges with a tool that had a ball on the end. Gum paste gets very hard after it dries completely. It was a fun new medium to work with.

The 4th Birthday Cake
Our son wanted a present cake for his birthday. This was much easier than his original idea of a mickey mouse clubhouse cake. I was just hoping he didn’t change his mind again.
He was very happy with his present cake and had a great 4th birthday at a water-park hotel. He’s been asking to go back almost everyday!
Wilton Cake Decorating Class 4
Our final class from Wilton course 1 was about the ribbon rose & writing. It took some practice & firm icing but I eventually got it to work the roses take some practice. We decorated a cake after our lesson. The course was well worth it. I learned a lot of new techniques and information from an experienced cake decorator. This is my cake after it has done some traveling.
